Ingredients

  • 700g beef or pork
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • Garlic
  • Salt and pepper
  • Oil or lard
  • Water or stock

Description

Pörkölt is a slow-cooked stew made with beef, pork, or lamb, onion, paprika, and little else — showcasing the depth of Hungarian flavours.

Instructions

  1. Fry onions until golden, add garlic and paprika.
  2. Add meat and brown all sides.
  3. Add water and simmer for 1.5–2 hours until tender. Serve with dumplings or noodles.
